I will note that it's hard to properly expose a video monitor, and the color ends up looking a little bit blown out in parts of this video. In its defense, this monitor looks just fine. Are the colors perfect? Probably not, but this monitor does a great job for its size and price. My cellphone is heavier then this monitor which means no real extra weight added to your current setup. I have made a Camera Stabilizer which is able to use for taking videos with small digital camera (about 300g) to Digital SLR (about 1500g). All parts can be separated for better portability. This version (v7.4) is specially designed to achieve to be light for using with heavy digital SLR. Even it is Lightweight (525g) but, it has enough rigidity and designed for easier and faster setting. Shooting Videos with a DSLR Camera - English

With the ability to shoot video with many new DSLR cameras, the necessary changes in handling them has become evermore important. Professional photographer Bill Frakes, in conjunction with Bogen Imaging (now Manfrotto Distribution), shot a video using a DSLR camera with Manfrotto and Gitzo photography equipment. These were his conclusions: The new cameras look and feel like traditional still cameras, but handle very differently, especially when shooting video. The weight distribution and focusing techniques involved require a tough, durable, and rock steady platform to shoot with. When shooting video with the new DSLR cameras like the Nikon D90, I rely heavily on Manfrotto and Gitzo tripods to keep the camera steady and video smooth. The Manfrotto 700RC2 and the 190XB are an excellent solution for working on the go. The 701HDV is an even more robust head that is still lightweight and very easy to use. The Gitzo fluid damped 3-way head G2272M is great on the GT3320BS tripod. The G2180 and the G2380 fluid heads are terrific options as well. I use a lot of long, heavy telephoto glass and it is absolutely critical that I have not only perfectly steady, optimally balanced equipment in order to produce crisp, fluid images, but it is equally important that the heads allow seamless fluid control so that I can move easily with the action. In the field, traveling with tripods are a mandatory part of my workflow. My personal favorites are the Manfrotto 529 HiHat with the 519 video ...

16x9 Cinema: IGUS DryLin DIY Video Slider for HDSLR Filmakers

16x9cinema.com In this short video blog post, I share a little more information about the Igus DryLin rails system modified to use as a video camera slider. Several weeks ago I posted an unboxing video on YouTube of three different Igus DryLin rail systems for making an inexpensive slider for your camcorder or HDSLR. I took the rail system to a local machinist and had him tap in a mounting hole in each rail so I could attach the rails to a tripod. I also had a mounting plate added with a 3 inch bolt to allow mounting a video head to the rail. The ends of the rails were tapped and a bolt and washer added to prevent the cradle from sliding off the rails. This iPhone 4 video (don't expect high production values here) shows the end results. I just want to quickly show you my newly machined Igus sliders. You will see a couple of sample clips I took with the Canon 5D Mark II mounted to the Igus DryLin W16-A rail system. I mounted a Nikkor 55mm macro lenses to the Canon 5D Mark II. Bottom line: These are clearly a great option for the budget conscious filmmaker.

Swarovski UCA digiscoping adapter: DSLR cameras

To set up the Swarovski UCA for a DSLR camera: - align the supporting platform so that you have a large area, big enough to support your DSLR, as opposed to rotated and made more compact for a point and shoot camera (see video) - attach the camera on to the removable base plate, making sure that the screw is in the centre position on the base plate (as opposed to the off-set position for many compact cameras) - the type of camera objective lens you use is important for mounting and using your DSLR for digiscoping. Normally, your best bet would be to use something like a fixed 50mm f1.8 lens (aperture wide open). Pancake lenses are great as they keep the camera's weight as close to the telescope's eyepiece as possible. It is possible to use a small kit zoom with some small DSLRs. eg with a Canon 1000D setting the 18-55mm zoom to 37-55mm should give you a vignetting free image. The problem with zoom lenses are twofold: they generally do not have the quality of the fixed lenses, and they are longer so there is greater leverage holding the weight of the (comparatively) heavy DSLR far away from the attachment point and the scope's eyepiece. - slowly slide the camera on to the mounted UCA making sure the camera lens does not bash up against the telescope's ocular lens - adjust the height by loosening the screw on the right - now loosen the large black screw underneath the platform to adjust the horizontal and distance alignment. Konova DSLR Slider Review

www.learningdslrvideo.com Before I start in on the review I want to tell you about my little DIY dolly because before I had it I thought it would be the answer to all my slider needs. Well it wasn't and I don't use it that often, there are two reasons, speed of setup and smooth surfaces. For me I like to move fast from slider move to slider move and using the dolly on a large long board is just not what I call fast for set up time. Also a board does not work well on a board unless it is really smooth, this works best on glass or like a Formica counter top. I tell you this because the Konova slider is much faster to setup, especially in many different configurations. Over the past couple of years a lot of sliders made for DSLR's have come out and a lot of them are really expensive and out of the reach of many amateurs. Basically there are two types of sliders, the less expensive friction sliders that use something smooth like Teflon, and the more expensive roller bearing type that can be very expensive. That is where this Konova slider is different, it has roller bearings and it is around the same price as the friction based sliders.
